Tourist cruise to Dendermonde

Dendermonde is situated in the centre of Flanders, near de confluence of the rivers Dender and Scheldt. It has a population of 43.000 inhabitants. Dendermonde is the chief town of the administrative and juridical district.

In the middle of the market-place we see jewels of medieval architecture: the Town Hall (former Cloth Hall, 1336-1350) and the Belfry. On a corner we see the Meat Hall (the Hall of the Butchers, 14th century). At present it is an archaeological museum.

People who visit Dendermonde will never forget the legendary "Ros Bayard" and its brave riders, four brothers the "Vier Heemskinderen", who fought the emperor Charlemagne. Everywhere in town you can find souvenirs of the famous horse. Once a decade the procession carries a giant representation of the Steed around the town.
